Summer by Adel J. Cardor

Oh summer, how I love your warm enclosure  How sad I will be when it is over  Seeing kids playing  Your days are never-ending....  Life without you would be such bore  In a classroom with your feet still, on the floor  I go to bed happy as can be  Another fun day tomorrow is guaranteed

Memorial Day

Knights thou are Galant soldiers you fought On land, in air, and sea The deep trenches your home Whether fallen or standing Your lives freely given, in civil and international combat Securing freedom for all In the name of the country you loved Lives shortened so others may live In blood the price is paid In battle, peace you brought forth Many a beneficiary, forever remain nameless to thee Heroes are ye, agree with war or not On this day we recall Ultimate sacrifices you made Visiting cemeteries, as flowers we lay Families will gather, nations stand in silence for honor your due Homage we pay, thou deserving, flags be hoisted In the annals of history, stones in town squares, statues in prominence, memories included   Your names shall survive

Close Relationships

Relationship are tough of that I know Marriage more so I tender I’m not a guru in this for sure Failed at mine of course, can’t hide it though sore Lessons I learned, some I can proffer Goodwill stacks will help Gentle words and initiatives paramount Turbulent times expect Dual commitment the way  Harsh words are cruel  Cordial arguments feasible, even in the worst of times Personal attacks denounce  Demonize actions and issues often, not the soul Timeouts entreat, when hostilities at peak Open mind of benefit  Contempt and accusations anathema  Blame games are lame, oh what evil pleasure it leaves  Mutual respect why not  Genuine compliments soften Benefit of doubt not seldom  Love dearly I beseech  For all relationships are demanding  Most will not last  Few are forever  Chart your own course indeed

Struggles

Twenty four lunar cycles and more Babble is constant, silence is speech Most have a ton, none yet we see Eye contact a taboo Touch he yearns Attention span is fleeting Solitary play unbridled Evasive maneuvers the rule Some days are sunny Most days are dim Nature or nurture, not one can say Accident or not More questions remain Answers are sparse Denials appealing Too early for certain, but differences endure What can one do? Shout or scream an option To cry in silence, what if the tear drum is empty? Opinions are swell Entertain hope is all Despair avoid Optimists embrace  Naysayers circumvent For only time will tell

Mothers Day Musings

Nine months of undesired weight gain, unsteady wobbling gait and swollen feet  Eating foods driven by cravings not clearly understood Rarely uncontrolled physiological metamorphosis occurs curtailing this ordeal by the knife Oftentimes mood swings not akin to her basic nature Yet she labors on, until the final contractions that does nothing to free her but shift gears into another phase of controlled chaos Labor is hard, the pains unbearable, yet she stoically soldiers on, pushes till beads of sweat rolls down from her temples to the chest and if truth be told every pore she ever possessed Then comes the joyful sound of the offspring who has in essence began another journey into the unknown, exiting the comfort of another who kept safe for the earlier voyage into this world  Mother then, endures once more, another appropriation of her time and sanity with sleepless nights Unconsolable babies who suck not just milk from her biological fountain but the very emotional reserves, e...

Love - Lovers

Hand holding usual  Long walks down pavement a must  Devouring eyes always  Doting is certain   Infatuation of course  Kissing, touching and cuddling without fail    Minimal arguments if so  Most days are smiling  Gentle words a definite  Thoughtful actions enduring   Considerate maneuvers a give and take    Tactful feedback expected  Blindness to faults invariably  Always forgiving  Lauding oftentimes   Assail rarely    Nothing can go wrong  The world is at peace  Wading into the sunset  Desire a lifetime it lasts  And not a moment too soon

Trees

Trees so tall Colorful their leaves Branches so crooked Thorny some are  Smooth is rare Winds they break Shade they offer Their breeze we like Some scents are great Odors may reek Tables they make Chairs to sit Boats to sail Fires they light Warmth they supply  Numerous uses abound Gaseous balance they keep Oxygen we breathe Carbon dioxide they extract  As itself it feeds What will it be  A land without trees Scarcity of food Animals pass on And man along Seed more trees  Implore thee now One per house Reasonable a start A forest in making Humanity liberate

The World of Books

Books They provide solace to some  Occasional doorway to sights, previously  unseen  Knowledge to pursuers   Enlightenment to the illiterate  Enjoyment if not pleasure you seek    A modest way to travel to places unknown  A channel to people, famous or not  Arena for writers and readers alike Bringing alive thoughts only envisioned     History it preserves   Stories it tells  Information it transfers  Record it keeps  Emotions it stirs  Longings it fulfills    A teacher it is   A lover not less  Entertainment it offers  Rubble rouser besides   All this and more it achieves, through the mind blowing world of books

Young Covid

Covid is 19 in years  Already traveled the world over  Many a statesman he met Citizens he terrorized, both near and far  How could this be, he's only 19 in years   Feared by many  Others he buried  Shelters in place,  Lost jobs and wages  Salary cuts abound  Depression seems certain  Recession rumors are true  Nations befuddled  Economies he wrecked  Foreclosures afoot  More printed greens, six trillion US  Europe in shambles,  Asia in turmoil  Africa in hiccups  Savior unsighted  He stands tall, above peer 19 Covid we loathe, history will recall Imprinted in time is COVID 19  Forever known, in the hall of Panic

Corona Virus

Corona, the name that rhymes with cheerful beer and a dreadful bug  It came stealthily and rode roughshod, undeterred  Socially distant we became as we fought to stay alive while the virus run wild amongst the naive  For once in our lifetime together we fall divided we stand  Remaining aloof and recluse the new norm, in a world where socialites reign  Solitary confinement bestowed so graciously, as the world acquiesced to live  When will it all end, summer they say or so they surmise?  Sun will liberate but some have their doubts  As more cross to the land of the dead each day We look to science and vaccine for trust, drugs we know and some we don’t  Damaging some are but what choice we have? As panacea eludes our zealous dredge  As answers escape, hail Mary we seek  Obstinate corona we battle so fervid  Try as they might the afflicted to breathe, as they drown so fast in fluids  Boomer o...

Not just Words

They are not just words  They bite like the teeth Sting like the bee Pierce like the sword Scrape like the concrete pavement They wreck like the wrecking ball  They topple like that old dilapidated building making way for the new   They are not just words They soothe like a balm They calm like the waves of the sea They whistle by like the wind They encourage and motivate They are not just words They bear good news and bad They make a difference between life and death They can be written down or spouted from that notorious orifice They carry ideas They are the main form of communication They are used to decree and declare They are not just words They can be used to fire up the crowd or cool down a rowdy mutinous bunch They bear equally the truth and the falsehood alike They move mountains I hear, that I have not yet witnessed Surprised I will not, because they are not just words

A DAY FOR RAIN

A DAY FOR RAIN And so the day came My fate revealed Humbled I was, as I mumbled ineffable words For the confidence I had Quickly and untimely crushed I stood tall, previously I did I had the poise it took For I knew the stuff so well Or so, I thought For the battle I knew was hard The mission not to be dallied with For preparation was key That without question I knew For the key I forged myself Cognizant of the enormity of the task Prepared I was for this Little I knew the ignominy That calmly and frighteningly lain in wait For another day has come For me to taste again The bitter, perhaps sour familiar taste of disappointment That which I dread For we have met before An experience not to be forgotten A memory hard to erase What could I have done? For I did my best The best I could The books I learnt, the time I spent, the effort infused The candle I lit Midnight as it was Deep into the still cloudless night I labored...
